The judge who gave convicted murderer, Amber Guyger, a Bible is being accused of violating freedom from religion. The Freedom From Religion Foundation filed a complaint yesterday against Judge Tammy Kemp for giving Guyger, a former Dallas police officer who was convicted for murdering her neighbor, a Bible while in the courtroom. The foundation said Judge Kemp's actions "overstepped judicial authority." The complaint argues that while it is acceptable for Kemp to express her faith as a private citizen, she was representing the US government at the time. Foundation co-presidents Dan Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor are asking for the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct to investigate the actions as a violation under the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct.
