The first full-time Sikh American law enforcement officer in Southeast Texas is dead following a shooting. Harris County Deputy Sandeep Dhaliwal was killed this afternoon when he was shot twice in the back during a traffic stop. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says Dhaliwal was a great deputy who was a personal friend. He praised doctors and nurses for doing all they could to save Dhaliwal's life. Two people are in custody and a weapon has been recovered. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says the deputy died from his injuries after being rushed to a hospital. Harris said, "I’m sad to share with you that we’ve lost one of our own. Our deputy was unable to recover from his injuries. There are no words to convey our sadness. Please keep his family and our agency in your prayers"
