The Houston area continues to clean up from Imelda. The storm caused at least five deaths after dumping 43 inches of rain on southeast Texas, most of it within 24 hours. Hazardous flooding brought the Houston area to a standstill, leaving hundreds of cars stranded in high water and leading to several deaths. Houston emergency workers discovered a man's body in a ditch, who apparently drowned, and two drivers who apparently died in their cars were discovered after floodwaters receded. Nearby Beaumont was hit hard with serious flooding and power outages.
