Imelda Death Toll Rises To Five

Tropical Storm Imelda Brings Heavy Flooding To Houston Area

Five deaths in the Houston area are now being blamed on former Tropical Storm Imelda. The remnants of the storm dumped 43 inches of rain on southeast Texas, much of it within 24 hours. Hazardous flooding brought the Houston area to a standstill Friday, leaving hundreds of cars stranded in high water and leading to several deaths. Houston emergency workers discovered a man's body in a ditch, who apparently drowned, and two drivers who apparently died in their cars were discovered after floodwaters receded. Two deaths were reported during Thursday's flooding, including a man who drove into rising waters and a man who was electrocuted while trying to move his horse. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared a state of emergency for 13 counties.
