Barges Hit Houston Bridge

A major freeway in the Houston area is shut down after multiple barges hit a bridge over the San Jacinto River. Officials received a report late last night that nine barges had broken from their moorings at a shipyard in the river because the water was so rough, and at least two of the barges struck the I-10 bridge into Houston. The Texas Department of Transportation has been unable to inspect the bridge because the water is too high after flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda. The barges are apparently stacked up and there's possible structural damage to the bridge. It's not clear when the bridge will reopen.
