Dems Push For Aggressive Moves To Curb Gun Violence

Democratic Presidential Candidates Participate In Third Debate In Houston

Democratic presidential hopefuls are pushing for aggressive moves to curb gun violence. In the latest Democratic debate in Houston, former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke said military-style assault weapons are weapons of war and should be banned. O'Rourke noted that he has called for sweeping gun buyback programs. California Senator Kamala Harris noted that lawmakers have done nothing about gun violence. Former VP Joe Biden said there's been a "sea change" in the U.S. after a rash of deadly mass shootings.

Harris also condemned President Trump's rhetoric. She talked about Latinos who were targeted in the recent mass shooting in El Paso and said Trump is not pulling the trigger "but he's sure been tweeting out the ammunition." Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren said guns kill children every day in the U.S. She argued that Congress is beholden to the gun industry and said that must change. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders blamed a "corrupt political system."
