Brett Anderson allowed two runs over five innings as the A's topped the Astros 5-3 in Houston. Marcus Semien had three hits, including a solo homer, and scored a pair of runs. Matt Olson contributed a two-run double and Sean Murphy homered for Oakland, which has won two straight in Houston. George Springer and Martin Maldonado homered in defeat. Josh James took the loss, retiring none of the four batters he faced in the sixth with all them scoring. The Astros' magic number in the AL West is eight.
