Florida prepares for Dorian

Hurricane Dorian

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is declaring a state of emergency as Hurricane Dorian takes aim at the Sunshine State. DeSantis said the declaration will ensure that local emergency agencies have the time and resources to prepare for what could be a powerful category three hurricane. Dorian is expected to make landfall in Florida late Sunday or early Monday.

A public health emergency is being declared for Puerto Rico as Hurricane Dorian hits the island. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar signed the declaration today. In a statement, Azar says this will help make sure those living in Puerto Rico "who rely on Medicare and Medicaid have continuous access to the care they need." Some isolated areas in Puerto Rico could get up to eight inches of rain from the storm.
