More Immigrants Arriving Sick To Valley Shelters

Swelling Numbers Of Migrants Overwhelm Southern Border Crossings

A growing number of sick asylum seekers are showing up in the Valley. Marianela Ramírez Watson, Director of the Good Neighbor Settlement House in Brownsville, says in the last three months there has been an increase in the number of immigrants in general. Additionally, she says her organization is seeing more of those immigrants arrive with fevers and in some cases already suffering from Influenza Type A. She also says Good Neighbor's clinic recently added another doctor but due to low funding had to let the doctor go. The clinic is now only open once a week.
