Atascosa County Constable deputies say they uncovered an apparent human smuggling attempt when they found 16 people under construction materials during a traffic stop near Poteet today.
During the stop, the deputies say they heard sounds of knocking and pleas for help from under a pile of construction materials. Multiple agencies came out to assist and two female victims were transported to Methodist South for heat related medical issues. The driver is in custody and could be facing possible federal smuggling charges.
