3 Things To Know Today

1 Trump Plans To Meet With Chinese President In Japan

President Trump says he will meet with Chinese President Xi [[shee]] at next month's G-20 summit in Japan. Trade talks between the U.S. and China have run aground, but Trump insists that the U.S. is in a very strong position. During a White House photo-op, he again accused China of “taking advantage” of the U.S. “for too long.” He also insisted that his tariffs on Chinese imports are working – saying that American farmers and manufacturers will be very happy with the results of the trade negotiations. That's a position that many experts disagree with. "We had a deal with China, it was 95% there and then my representatives...they went to China and they were told that things that were fully agreed to, we're not going to get anymore. That's not acceptable," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "I said, that's good, that's fine, put on the tariffs…I love the position we’re in." The stock market doesn’t. The market has been tumbling for days amid fears of a growing trade war between the U.S. and China.

2 Trump Responds To Battles With House Dems

President Trump says House Democrats are seeking things that they are not entitled to. Speaking at the White House, Trump was pressed about battles with Dems over documents and congressional testimony from administration officials. He said the Russia investigation is over and added – "We're wasting a lot of time with that stuff." Trump went on to say that Democrats are just trying to win the presidency next year and added that Dems are putting their own personal goals ahead of the country. Whether your opinion on that likely depends on your political persuasion, Capitol watchers say that the lack of unity on the notion of impeachment says no such plan is likely to take shape – certainly not before 2020.

3 Jimmy Carter Takes Fall, Breaks Hip

If brain cancer can’t take him down – neither will a busted hip! Former President Jimmy Carter is recovering from surgery after taking a fall at his home in Plains, Georgia yesterday. A statement from the Carter Center says the former President broke his hip while leaving to go turkey hunting and calls the surgery successful. “President Carter said his main concern now isn't his recovery,” the Carter Center adds. “But rather that "turkey season ends this week, and he has not reached his limit. He hopes the state of Georgia will allow him to rollover the unused limit to next year." Carter is at a hospital in Americus, Georgia and his wife, Rosalynn, is with him. Carter is 94-years old.
