Attorney General Bill Barr claims he was surprised that Special Counsel Robert Mueller did not make a recommendation about obstruction of justice. During a Senate hearing today, Barr said he is confident that he made the right decision not to pursue a broader investigation of obstruction. He suggested there was no prosecutable evidence that President Trump committed a crime. Mueller outlined 10 instances where obstruction may have occurred.
Meantime, Barr released the letter that Mueller sent him after he submitted the final report. The letter complained that Barr mischaracterized key findings in the report. The letter states that Barr's March memo to Congress "did not fully capture the context, nature and substance" of the nearly two-year probe. Barr said he called Mueller after getting the letter and Mueller said media reports about Barr's letter to Congress were inaccurate. Barr insisted that Mueller was clear in the phone call that the Justice Department "had not misrepresented his report."
