Multiple people are dead in shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. One suspect is in custody, and police are on the lookout for more possible suspects. New Zealand's prime minister called it an unprecedented act of violence that has no place in that country. She refused to discuss a possible motive in the case, but she made a point of saying that the victims have made a home in New Zealand, while the suspect has no place in New Zealand's society. There is unconfirmed online video that appears to show one of the shootings from the gunman's point of view.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said this is one of New Zealand's darkest days. Ardern said many of the victims are likely migrants and possibly refugees who chose New Zealand as their home. She said the person who committed the shootings has no place in the country.
