Julian Castro Proposes Discussing Reparations For Slave Descendants

Julian Castro says if he is elected President in 2020, he will appoint a commissioner task force to look at reparations for the descendants of slaves. On CNN's State of the Union, the former Housing and Urban Development Secretary and San Antonio mayor said he believes the United States should address its history of slavery and possibly compensate the descendants of Africans who were enslaved as part of the Atlantic slave trade. He argued why "if, under the Constitution, we compensate people because we take their property, why wouldn't you compensate people who actually were property?"
