Sculley Assistants Dominate Manager Finalist List

City Manager Sheryl Sculley may be retiring, but chances look strong that her influence will be felt strongly in City Hall for the next eight years, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

City Council today trimmed the list of 31 applicants, six are either current deputy or assistant city managers.

And a seventh, Deputy Dallas City Manager Majid Al-Ghafry, is also a Sculley product, he is San Antonio's former Public Works Director.

Mayor Nirenberg says he hope to have the seven finalists narrowed down to a second round this coming week, and then conduct open meetings so the finalists can meet with the public.

Nirenberg had expressed a desire to have a successor to Sculley selected by the end of the month.. Under the terms of the recently approved charter amendment, the successful can be paid no more than roughly $300,000 annually, and can remain in the most for a maximum of eight years.
