The successor to East Side councilman Cruz Shaw is a familiar face at City Hall, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Art Hall, who represented District Eight on the northwest side for two terms in the last decade was selected by Council today to succeed Shaw as the representative for District Two. Shaw resigned last month to become a state district judge.
Hall pointed out that since he won't have a learning curve, his experience will be essential.
"This interim position has little to no time for a learning curve," he said. "You have 24 items on the agenda today. This Council member is going to have to make votes today."And Hall was sworn in and did cast votes today.
Hall also stressed to Council that he legally owns and lives in homes in District Eight and District Two, so he meets the legal residency requirements for the East Side seat.
Since Hall served two terms back in the day when Council members were term limited at two terms, he will not be eligible to run for a full term in the May municipal election. Hall, who is now an administrator at Alamo Colleges, says he had no intention of running for re-election to the seat.
