Sun Country is coming to San Antonio.
The low cost airline is announcing a major expansion, including non stop flights from San Antonio to Portland and Minneapolis, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"This will be our 54th destination, we have added 35 new flights in that period of time, including 19 brand new non stop destinations," City Aviation Director Russ Handy said.
Sun Country will start off its service to San Antonio with low fares, as low as $89 one way to its new destinations.Handy says Portland is consistently listed as one of five destinations that San Antonio travelers wanted non stop service the most.
“We’re excited to provide new low cost air service to San Antonio residents and to bring more visitors to the Alamo City,” said Chief Commercial Officer Ted Botimer. “Our focus on low fares and great customer service will be a great fit in this market, and we look forward to our continued partnership with the San Antonio Aviation Department.”
Sun Country will start out with non stops to the two destinations four days a week.
"To get them on with scheduled service is a really big deal," Handy said.
2018 was a really big deal for San Antonio International Airport, with passenger number records broken each month on the way to 10 million passengers for the year. In addition to the special events of the city's Tricentennial, the addition of the new non stops is cited as a main reason for the boom in passenger traffic.
