Black Friday gets all the love, but this weekend is likely to be the buiest of the year for local retailers, if, for no other reason, than it is too late to get items in time for Christmas from many on line stores, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
"The entire shopping season is critical for retailers, but this will be the last big push here," George Keleman, head of
The Texas Retailers Association, tells News Radio 1200 WOAI.
He says many Texas retailers, from small firms to familiar chains, are holding sales this weekend, to try to convince shoppers to pick up that one last item for the Holidays.
"As we get closer and closer to Christmas Day, the option for consumers becomes their local retailers."And he says for many retailers, it will be this weekend, and not Black Friday, which gets its name from the time when retailers get 'in the black,' or profitable for the year, when local stores will either see a profit or a loss for 2018.
"There is going to be a lot of traffic, a lot of activity, fortunately the weather looks great for this weekend, so we are really geared up for a final push, all the way to Christmas."
So far, early figures indicate a solid retail season for San Antonio stores, with same store sales up over last year, in some cases up substantially.
