San Marcos Regional Airport was shut down for several hours this afternoon after it was hit by an extortion attempt that was reported at locations across the country, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The Airport about 1:30 this afternoon received an email claiming that a bomb had been planted in the building, and said the bomb would explode if the people inside evacuated, or if police were called. How the person who sent the email was going to accomplish this wasnt explained.
The e-mailer demanded payment in Bitcoin.
Police were called and the airport was evacuated.
Police found no bomb in the building and the airport resumed normal operations.
Similar emails were received at facilities nationwide. No bomb was found in any location,and the investigation continues.
