Police Get Differing Stories in Shooting of Teen Driver

A teenaged girl was shot in the back overnight as she drove an SUV filled with teens down a northeast side street, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police were called to Sunrise Crest Street, where they found the victim laying on the street.

Witnesses told officers that a gun that was being held by a back seat passenger 'went off,' striking the driver.  She was rushed to SAMMC with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

Detectives heard a lot of 'I didn't know it was loaded' and 'it went off by accident' from the people in the car, but the teen who actually had the gun ran off, so the investigation remains active.
