SAPD Officer Hits Suspect Who Was Trying to Escape on a Bicycle

A drug suspect was critically injured when he was trying to outrun a police officer while riding a bicycle, and ended up riding right into the officer's path, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say they were staking out suspects in a 'highly known drug area' at Hickman and North Flores, which is west of San Pedro Park, when an individual saw the officer and tried to ride his bike into the park.

The officer had his flashing rooftop lights on as he attempted to apprehend the suspect, but the suspect rode his bicycle right into the officer's path.

The officer hit the suspect, who was not wearing a helmet.The suspect was rushed to SAMMC in critical condition with multiple injuries, including head injuries.

The officer was checked out by EMS for minor injuries.
