The commute mess on Highway 281 outside of Loop 1604 is about to get a lot worse, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
All of the main lanes of southbound 281 between Encino Rio and Redland Road will be closed, forcing all traffic to exit to the access roads.
The same thing will happen in the coming couple of weeks to the northbound lanes in the area.
TxDOT says the access roads of the expanded project have been completed, and now is the time to start major work on the main lanes.
Officials say drivers won't lose any lanes, as the access road is three lanes, just like the main lanes are today.
The 'diversion' to the access road will last for 'several months' as key work is one on widening the main lanes as part of the $150 million project.
