Alamo Heights Middle School Teacher Jeff Wheatcraft has been named the 2018 Texas Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of School Administrators, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Mr. Wheatcraft is a teacher of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and has been at AHISD since he received his Texas Teachers alternative certification to teach art back in 2006.
Later, he earned his science teacher certificate through Texas Teachers and transitioned into science during his second year of teaching.
'Teachers of Tomorrow ' describes Mr. Wheatcraft as 'a storm-chasing, swing dance-instructor, rocket-making, warm-hearted Renaissance man.'
There are more than 350,000 teachers in Texas and Jeff was selected through a lengthy process as the best teacher in the state. His nomination was approved by various teacher organizations, and by the twenty Texas Education Service Center Regions.
He has twice been nominated for Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
"My message as Teacher of the Year would be don't let anything stop you," Wheatcraft said. "The sky is the limit, and kids can do amazing things if you let them."
