A U.S. Mail truck driver burned to death in a horrific accident in northeast San Antonio overnight, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say the man was driving an 18 wheeler packed with mail, and was headed to the main Post Office on Perrin-Beitel Rd.
For some reason, the big rig jumped the curb as it traveled down southbound I-35 near Wiedner Rd.
The truck slammed into a utility pole, and then skidded into the ditch.
The force of the wreck shoved the trailer into the main cab, igniting the gas tank.
The driver was trapped in the burning cab and burned to death before rescue workers could get to him.
Investigators don't know whether the driver fell asleep, or there was some other reason for the crash. No other vehicles are known to have been involved.
