First QuikTrip in San Antonio Opens Today

Look for QT in SA.

News Radio 1200 WOAI reports that the Tulsa based QuikTrip Corporation today is opening the first of what it plans will be as many as 100 convenience stores across San Antonio, Austin, and places in between.

The first store is opening today at Loop 1604 and Lookout Rd.

"The San Antonio area is something that we have been looking at for the last six, seven, eight years," QuickTrip's Mike Thornbrough said.

''Within the last year we made the announcement, and now we are starting to open up stores."

QuikTrip says 22 stores are currently in development.  The next ones to open, before the end of the year, will be in Leon Valley and in Kirby.

In addition to the standard sodas, beer, and gas that convenience stores are known for, Thornbrough says QT customers also rely on the stores to grab dinner on the way home from work.

"We made the announcement ten years ago that we were going to get into the fresh food side of the business, and we're getting better and better at it," he said.

QT specializes in made to order pizzas, croissants, and breakfast bowls, as well as menus that will be unique to the San Antonio area, including kolashes, tacos, and barbecue sandwiches.

Thronbrough says with time at a premium for many families, fewer and fewer people are excited about the prospect of running way to the back of a 150,000 square foot superstore to buy a loaf of bread, and QT offers those same items at a competitive price.
