A case of tuberculosis has been confirmed at Lady Bird Johnson High School in the North East ISD, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
The Metro Health District says the person who has been diagnosed with the highly contagious disease is no longer at school and is receiving treatment. Officials didn't say if the person is a student or a staffer at Johnson.
Nurses and teachers met today, and the school sent out an e-mail to all parents.Any person at Johnson who may have been exposed to the disease will be notified so they can undergo testing and receive treatment.
Metro Health says its not easy to get TB."Usually a person must have close contact with the infected person for a substantial length of time," officials said. "Casual and limited contact with a person with active TV is not enough to pass it on to others."
While TB has killed millions of humans over the millennia, today it is easily treated and cured with medication.
