Man Impatient with Construction Delays Hurt Trying to Drive Around Traffic

We've all thought about doing this at one time or another, but a 37 year old man who actually tried it overnight almost paid with his life, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say cars had backed up due to construction on Loop 1604 near I-10 on the city's northwest side.A driver apparently became frustrated with the wait, so he drove his mini-van into the grassy median on Loop 1604 in an apparent attempt to drive around the congestion.

Problem was, when he tried to get back onto the Highway, he sideswiped one construction vehicle, and then slammed head on into an 18 wheeler carrying asphalt.

The man had to be cut out of the mangled wreckage of his mini van by paramedics, who rushed him to the hospital where they were able to save his life.

Nobody else was hurt.  No work on whether charges will be filed.
