Playwright Neil Simon, the man behind so many Broadway hits including The Odd Couple, Brighton Beach Memoirs and Sweet Charity, has passed away at the age 91. His family says Simon died early today of complications from pneumonia, and was surrounded by his loved ones at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Simon's breakout hit was Come Blow Your Horn in 1961. He wrote some of the biggest Broadway hits of the 20th century. His shows like The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, The Sunshine Boys, Plaza Suite, and Chapter Two made him a household name. Some of his Broadway successes were turned into movies and The Odd Couple became a television series. Simon's name was so big on Broadway that for seven months in 1967, he had four productions running at the same time.
