Heat Advisory in Place for This Afternoon

Dangerous Heat this Afternoon and Early Evening - Heat Advisory in Effect 

 

Area of Concern:

 

All  of South-Central Texas...but especially along and east of U.S. 281,  including the San Antonio and Austin metro areas, where a Heat Advisory  is in effect.

Threats & Impacts:  

Temperatures:  High temperatures today 100 to 106 degrees across much of South Central Texas, with the exception of the northern Hill Country in the upper 90s. Heat index values could be a few degrees warmer than the air temperature east of I-35.

 

Impacts:  Prolonged exposure to this heat could lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or even a heat stroke. 

 

Overview:

A  Heat Advisory is in effect from 1 PM to 7 PM generally along and east  of U.S. 281. Regardless of whether or not you are in an advisory it will  be hot across all of South Central Texas today and proper  precautions to avoid heat exhaustion or heat stroke should be taken if  you work or spend time outside. Mostly light winds in some areas could  exacerbate the effects of the heat today.

Heat Safety Tips:

 

  • If you work or spend time outside take frequent breaks out of the heat and sun.
  • When possible reschedule strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing. 
  • Drink plenty of water. 
  • Young  children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any  circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when  car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
