Is a familiar face taking the first step this weekend toward a run for the White House in 2020?
News Radio 1200 WOAI reports former Mayor and HUD Secrtary Julian Castro will be making several speaking engagements this weekend in Iowa, including an appearence at an event which is known as a forum for aspiring candidates for President.
"It's no secret that I'm thinking about running in 2020," Castro told News Radio 1200 WOAI about his trip to Iowa. "This will be my first time to Iowa, and I look forward to hearing what folks are talking about."
Castro also believes President Trump will be 'beatable' in 2020.
"Voters are going to want a change, somebody who is trying to bring the country together instead of trying to tear it apart," he said. "Somebody who is looking toward the future instead of looking to the past, and somebody who is committed to creating more jobs and opportunity, instead of golfing and fighting with political opponents."
Castro has not been idle since leaving the Obama Cabinet in January of 2017. He has been writing a book, another prerequisite of a Presidential hopeful, and his Opportunity First Political Action Committee has been busy endorsing and financially supporting 'young progressive candidates running in key Congressional races needed to take back the House."
In fact, he will be campaigning for Democrats in the November elections in Iowa as well.
But he is also tending to his own possible political aspirations too.
"I've been out to New Hampshire a couple of times," he said of his political travels.
