SAISD Elementary School Flunks Out

An elementary school in the San Antonio ISD has failed to make the grade, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Rodriguez Elementary on Cesar Chavez near Our Lady of the Lake University has failed to achieve minimum educational standards as set by the Texas Education Agency and will close at the end of the school year that begins on Monday.

State law mandates that any school that fails to achieve a minimum score on STAAR testing and other standardized measurements for five straight years must close.

SAISD spokeswoman Leslie Price said when the new ratings come out on Wednesday, Rodriguez will again be in the Improvement Required status, for the fifth straight year.

The district says new accommodations will be made for the pupils at other schools, and Rodriguez employees will not lose their jobs.  They will be transferred to other schools, Price said.
