The San Marcos Fire Department and the ATF today wrapped their on scene investigation into the fire at the Iconic Village Apartments on July 20 that left five residents dead, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports
.Officials say the location where the fire started has been determined, but that information will not be released until forensic examiners determine the cause of the fire, and that will take several more weeks.
So far, 100 interviews have been conducted as part of the on-scene investigation.The building will now be turned over to the owners.
Officials say the property was in compliance with applicable fire codes, with battery powered smoke alarms installed int he individual apartments.
The apartment management also recently completed inspection of the smoke alarms.A property and fire inspection of the entire apartment complex was completed in 2014, and before that in 2009 when the complex was sold.
Three of the five people who died were Texas State University students. Another seven people were injured.
