Passenger Dies in Far Northwest Side Wreck

A driver has been charged with drunk driving following a one vehicle accident that killed his passenger on the city's far northwest side early today, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say the man was driving too fast down Leslie Rd. near Gilbeau Road outside Loop 1604 about midnight.

He lost control of his car, smashed through a barricade, and then skidded into a drainage ditch, rolling over several times.

The passenger was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the driver of the car, identified as Peter Zavala, 31, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and is held on $75,000 bond.  

The man who was killed has been identified as Jesse Cruz, 50.
