A subcontractor for a foundation company was killed on San Antonio's west side today when a house literally collapsed onto him, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Joe Arrington of the San Antonio Fire Department says he was working on the foundation of a vacant home near Texas Avenue and North Calaveras Streets, when something went wrong with the home's pier and beam structure.
"It caused the flooring above him in the house were some building materials were being stored to collapse on top of him," Arrington said. "It pinned him from about the shoulders up underneath the house, where it did kill him."
They had to use huge airbags to lift the wreckage of the home off of the worker, but the man was already dead.
The man did not have any identification. Officials are now working to see if there was any negligence involved.
