Three of Five Victims of San Marcos Fire Were TSU Students

Texas State University President Dr. Denise Trauth is offering condolences to the families of threee TSU students who were confirmed as being killed in last week's masive fire at the Iconic Village Apartments in San Marcos, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The four victims whose bodies have been positively identified are:

·         Dru Estes of San Antonio, Texas was a History major. Dru was not enrolled for the Fall 2018 semester, but was classified as a Sophomore. (born July 5, 1998)

·         Haley Frizzell of San Angelo, Texas was a Theatre major in her Sophomore year and enrolled to attend school this Fall.  (born July 10, 1999)

·         David Ortiz of Pasadena, Texas was an Exercise and Sport Science major in his Junior year and enrolled to attend school this Fall. (born May 11, 1997)

·         James Miranda was identified but is not affiliated with the university. (born Dec. 9, 1994)

The fifth victim, who is not been positively identified and is still listed as missing is identified as Belinda Moats of Big Wells (born Aug. 24, 1996).

"This is a heartbreaking tragedy," Dr. Trauth said.   "We send our most sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased."

Crews have completed the search and rescue operation and have determined that no more bodies are in the rubble of the apartment building.  It could take crews months to determine exactly where the fire stated and whether it was accidental or arson.
