Driver Beaten, Shot, as He Waited at North Side Stop Sign

A man who was stopped at a stop sign on the city's north side early today was suddenly swarmed on by three men, who police say pulled him from his car, beat him up, and shot him, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The victim was waiting at a stop sign on the city's northeast side shortly before 1AM.

Police say the three assailants were trying to rob the man.  They first severely beat him, then one of the men pulled a gun and fired two shots.

Despite a bullet wound in the shoulder, the victim drove to an apartment complex in the 10200 block of Desert Sands, which is just west of 281, to call for help.

He was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.  The three robbers ran away and remain at large.
