FDA Moving To Ban Milk Name From Non-Dairy Products

Milk Cow

The Food and Drug Administration is  moving to make sure non-dairy products aren't called milk.  FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb said he intends to enforce the  definition of milk as something that comes from a cow, not a plant.  The  rule has been on the books for a long time, but it hasn't been enforced  against products such as soy milk and almond milk.  Gottlieb says the  FDA will step up enforcement over the next year or so.  The announcement  comes as the American Dairy Coalition rolls out an effort this week to  persuade the FDA not to expand the definition of milk to include drinks  derived from plants.
