San Antonio Killer Cleared for Execution

Christoper Wright now has an appointment with the executioner, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Wright, who murdered the owner of a southeast side convenience store during a robbery and carjacking back in 2004 had requested clemency, which gathered support from the victims son, and members of the clergy, including Sister Jean Prajean of Dead Man Walking fame.

But the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles voted 6-0 Friday to deny clemency.

Clemency means the criminal would remain in prison for life, but could not be put to death.

Governor Abbott could still grant clemency to Young by executive order, but after todays ruling, that is considered highly unlikely.

Young is set to be executed on Tuesday.
