Man in West Side Standoff Shoots Robocop

A scary standoff at a west side mobile home ended peacefully late this morning, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Sheriff Javier Salazar says it begn about dawn when the man got into a dispute with family members in a mobile home in the Camino Creek Mobile Home Park in the 9600 block of Highway 90 west.

The man pulled a shotgun and started threatening family members.  Salazar says deputies managed to evacuate his relatives in the mobile home and also evacuated adjacent apartments.

Salazar says for a long while, the man refused to talk with SWAT officer surrounding the home

."At one point we sent a tactical robot into the house and the suspect shot that robot," he said.  "We didn't have high hopes that this was going to end well based on that behavior."

Salazar says SWAT officers using a megaphone finally managed to make contact with the suspect.

"Our negotiators persisted, they got communications established, and he gave himself up and he is in custody now."

Salazar said the suspect may undergo a mental health exam, and it is unclear what criminal charges he may face.Nobody was injuried in the standoff.
