A man who is believed to be homeless was rushed to the hospital with no vital signs early today after he was hit by a hit and run driver on the city's west side, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say the 25 year old man was legally crossing Potranco Road at Loop 1604, using the marked crosswalk, when an SUV came by at a high rate of speed and ran him over.
The SUV, described by witnesses as a maroon Explorer, then sped away. A witness told detectives the driver clearly realized that he had hit somebody.
Police say they are searching for the driver, who will face serious charges when arrested.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital with multiple injuries, including massive head injuries.
