Man Shot in Southwest Side Alley Following Bizarre Confrontation

A man is in critical condition after he was shot in the face in a bizarre confrontation in a southwest side alley overnight, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Police say the 26 year old victim was driving down the alley, which is public property, behind the 7900 block of Faircrown, which is off Five Palms Drive.

Suddenly, a man jumped in front of his truck and, when the driver stopped, the man started yelling at him, and then pulled a gun and shot him in the face.

The victim managed to get his truck rolling again but passed out and the truck slid into a ditch.  He was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition.

The man who fired the shot ran off.

Police don't know what the relationship between the two men may have been, if there was a relationship between the two, and what prompted the gunman go confront the victim.

Police are also investigating whether there may have been a racial component to the confrontation.  The victim is African American and the gunman is Latino.
