San Antonio's bizarre scourge of people driving the wrong way down freeways struck again early today, with devastating results, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say a motorist who was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Loop 1604 near Shanefield Rd., which is near Bandera Rd. on the northwest side, slammed head on into a car carrying three people that was going the right way about 2AM Monday.
All three people in the car that was hit by the wrong way driver had to be cut out of the wreckage. The wrong way driver was cut out of what was left of his mangled car as well. All four were rushed to University Hospital in serious to critical condition.
A police officer who was just ahead of the car that was hit narrowly missed being struck by the wrong way driver. He called in the alarm about the wrong way driver just before the accident.
The wrong way driver will be tested for alcohol content, and police say other charges are likely as well.
