A woman is dead after being shot by an Austin police officer after walking toward police with what appeared to be a knife.
Austin Police Chief of Police Brian Manley said officers were called to the neighborhood in the 7300 block of South Glenn about 2:30 this morning on reports of a woman chasing a relative with a knife.
Chief Manley says police officers entered the home while calling the suspect by name. Manley says video from their body cams shows officers being heard yelling "Drop the knife!" She reportedly refused and when she came toward the officers, an officer shot her. She died at the scene. None of the officers were injured.
Following standard procedure, the officer has been placed on administrative leave.
