San Antonio Military Bases Get New Commander

Joint Base San Antonio has a new commander, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Brig. Gen. Laura Lenderman took command today in a ceremony at the MacArthur Field Parade Ground at Ft. Sam Houston, succeeding Brig Gen. Heather Pringle.

Lenderman, who was just promoted to Brigadier General last year, comes from Scott Air Force Base near St. Louis, where she was commander of the 375th Air Mobility Wing.

Brig. Gen. Pringle is moving to a new post as director of strategic plans, programs, and analysis at Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command at Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio.  A second star is expected to come with that move.

Pringle, who was the fourth commander of JBSA, has been widely praised for leading the local military through several challenges, from the April 2016 workplace shooting incident at Lackland AFB to the debate  over what San Antonio must do to keep its military bases viable in the face of expected base closings in the coming years.

JBSA, which is technically the 502nd Air Base Wing, is the agency which manages logistics and coordinates civilian services for all of the military facilities in San Antonio, which is the largest
