Lava Traps People On Hawaii's Big Island

Hawaii

Nearly a dozen people are trapped by  lava flowing from Hawaii's Kilauea [[ KILL-uh-WAY-uh ]] volcano.  Authorities today said the lava increased after "vigorous eruptions" and  stranded the residents in an area on Hawaii's Big Island with no  electricity, cell phone reception, phone landlines or water.  There are  plans to airlift the holdouts if necessary.  At least 87 homes have  fallen victim to the lava that started flowing a month ago.  The  stranded people said they just had nowhere else to go and their final  escape route was cut off by the lava.
