Boosted by Final Four, Airport Passenger Traffic Soars

Helped along by basketball fans from around the country and around the world converging on the city for the Final Four, San Antonio International Airport soared to new hights in passenger traffic last month, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The Airport says a record 836,000 passengers flew through the airport during April.  That’s up more than 13% over April of 2017, the largest year-to-year growth ever at the Airport.

City Aviation Director Russ Handy says it is the 22nd straight month of record passenger growth.

“We view this as a positive trend,” Handy said.  “It provides momentum to continue our progress and record-breaking passenger growth into the future.”

New flights by Frontier and American Airlines helped push the total passenger load higher.

The report comes as San Antonio International remains under pressure to add new flights, especially non stop destinations, something their Airport has been accomplishing over the past year.
