Justin Verlander took a shutout into the seventh inning as the Astros beat the Yankees 5-1 in a Memorial Day matinee in the Bronx. Verlander struck out five over six and two thirds innings of five-hit, one-run ball to improve to 7-and-2. J.D. Davis clubbed a three-run homer in the second inning for Houston, which snapped a two-game skid. Domingo German struck out seven over five-and-two-thirds innings, but gave up four runs to fall to 0-and-3. Greg Bird broke up the shutout with a solo homer in the seventh for New York.
