Santikos Opening 'Movie Megaplex of the Future' in Cibolo

Santikos Entertainment says it has figured out what it will take to get you off your couch and away from your HDTV, and back into the movie theater, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Santokos has begun construction on the 'entertainment complex of the future at I-35 and Weiderstein Road in Cibolo.

The 87,000 square foot facility will feature 12 screens, 1500 reclining seats, 16 bowling lanes, laser tag, a full service restaurant and gar, and even an outdoor concert venue.

Santikos CEO David Holmes says inside the theaters, not only will movie goers experience laset projectors, but Dolby Atmos sound, a step beyond surround sound.

Dolby Atmos is called 'object based sound,' which is able to place the sound, for example, of a rocket launch at exactly the place where the rocket appears on the screen, helping to create a more realistic movie experience.

“We’ve spent the last several months perfecting a truly unique entertainment venue that will deliver a one of a kind guest experience that is unlike anything available today along the IH-35 corridor,” Holmes said.

The plan is to have the complex up and open by next spring.

Thanks to the bequest of the late John Santikos, the assets of the Santikos Entertainment Company are held by the San Antonio Area Foundation.  Santikos says the Schertz/Cibolo area has received $850,000 in funding, for programs benefitting youth and seniors, over the past three years.
