A man in his fifties was killed overnight when his motor scooter was rear ended by a car on the access road of Loop 410 near Fredericksburg Road on the northwest side, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.
Police say the driver of the car had just passed a VIA bus and was returning to the right lane because the access road was narrowing. He slammed into the back of the motor scooter, sending the driver flying through the air. The scooter operator suffered massive head injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to University Hospital.
The driver of the car sped away.
Police said there was no question that the driver knew about the accident, and he is expected to face felony charges when he is arrested.
The VIA bus was not involved in the accident.
