Five People, Including an 8 Year Old, Shot in Three Separate Shootings

Five people, including an eight year old, were shot in three separate shootings around the city overnight, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

The eight year old was in a house in the 11300 block of Roszell Dr, which is near Perrin-Beitel and Wurzbach Parkway on the northeast side, about midnight.

Police say somebody inside the house was 'playing with a gun,' when the weapon 'accidentally discharged' and shot the child. The victim was rushed to SAAMC in critical condition.

Police are investigating but say criminal charges are likely.

Earlier in the evening, three men were shot, all are in critical condition, after a fight at the Miller's Pond Park in the 6000 block of Old Pearsall Rd on the city's southwest side, ended with at least one of the participants pulling guns.

Other people on the scene loaded the victims into vehicles and dropped them off at a fast food restaurant nearby, where EMS was called.

No word on why the men were fighting, and so far, nobody has been arrested.

About midnight, a 46 year old man walked out of his home in the 3100 block of East Commerce to try to break up a fight in the front yard between his young nephew and a man who the nephew had been squabbling with all day.

The man the nephew was fighting with pulled a gun and shot the uncle in the stomach.

He was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition.

The gunman jumped into a car and sped away, but police know who he is.
